We are always looking for serious talent, in hardware and software, to supplement our team of highly capable design engineers. Most of our engineers have 10+ years’ practical design experience in embedded systems, covering the entire life cycle from initial concepts and feasibility work right through to product manufacture and post-launch support.

Consultant Embedded Software Engineer with at least 10 years’ practical design experience.
Full-time, working at our HQ in Oakington, Cambridge.
Core Skills
In this role, you’ll get to work on all stages of the design process, from initial feasibility to supporting new product introduction. You should be able to clearly demonstrate experience in all the following areas:
- Experience of the complete software development lifecycle, from requirements capture through design, implementation and validation to software release for production
- Translation of requirements into a coherent design
- C/C++ software design and development in an embedded environment
- Working with real-time operating systems (e.g. FreeRTOS, Zephyr)
- Scripting languages (e.g. Python, node.js)
- Development and debugging with prototype hardware and evaluation kits
- Good appreciation of hardware (e.g. MCUs, memory, sensors, modems, etc.)
- Agile/Scrum development methodologies
- Use of bug tracking systems
Technical Experience
You should be able to show past track record in at least four of the following areas:
- Device drivers (I2C, SPI, USB) and hardware control (GPIO, UARTs, DMA)
- Embedded TCP/IP networking
- Wireless technologies (e.g. Bluetooth LE, WiFi, etc.)
- Communications protocol design
- Interfacing to cloud systems (e.g. Azure, AWS, Google)
- Database programming
- System security/encryption techniques.
- Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment setup and use
Experience in any of these areas will be an advantage:
- Embedded control and monitoring solutions
- Wearable electronics
- Connected ‘Internet of Things’ products
- Location based systems
- Web based technologies

Senior Product Design Engineer with at least 10 years of practical design experience, working full-time, on-site in our central Cambridge office.
Wright Design is recruiting a Senior Product Design Engineer with at least 10 years of practical design experience. This is a fantastic opportunity for the right, highly motivated, individual to work on a variety of interesting and challenging projects as part of a successful, award-winning product design consultancy.
Wright Design is an established company with a reputation for delivering successful product designs. We work across a wide variety of consumer and professional industries, with clients from ambitious start-ups to global companies. We deliver products that meet high standards of quality, functionality, and reliability.
You will be a bright and versatile design engineer, with an inquisitive mind, able to contribute to the design and development of new products from early concept through to manufacture. You will need a good knowledge of mechanical principles, manufacturing techniques and materials. Experience with injection mouldings, metal die castings, sheet metal fabrication and CNC machining is essential. Ideally, you will have experience working on electro-mechanical engineering projects, and relevant university, college or apprenticeship qualifications. The successful candidate will work with our team of industrial designers, and electronic and software engineering teams. You will need to appreciate the emotive elements of what we deliver.
To be considered for this role you must be a competent user of CREO or Solidworks 3D CAD systems. It will be essential to have the ability to work both independently and collaboratively and to be confident with direct client contact.
Salary is negotiable subject to the experience of the successful applicant. This is a full-time, permanent role subject to completion of a successful 3-month probation period. Based at our design studio in the centre of Cambridge.
